giorgio gordano and giorgio dolce originally produced kkk back in 1983, and the track was taken into the hearts of the blossoming balearic scene hovering around dj alfredo at amnesia. its as gentle and sweet natured as italo disco can be, and of course it makes perfect sense that best records would dig it out of the archives and give it the shiny new reissue it deserves. the club mix of kkk is a feast of simple, charming programmed melodies and crisp drum machine rhythms with the innocence of the early 80s in its heart. the dub mix and bonus beats on the flip are handy for the technical djs out there, but the club mix is where it s at for the lovers.

label head enzo siragusa teams with ibiza resident nima gorji for the slick foreal ep the original mix (vinyl only) rolls deep, building nicely with a warming pad whilst subtle tripped out sounds flicker throughout the mix. djebali offers up more of a bassline friendly mix on the flip whilst fuse mainstay seb zito dusts it down with a phatt kick drum and ups the phunk on his version.

the maghreban aka ayman rostom is one of the most unique and respected beat makers working in house and techno today. his dusky grooves, heavy bass pressure and clanking drum breaks sound like they were dredged from the bottom of the river nile, imbued with a maverick personality that shares kinship with the likes of detroits andres and waajed, making him a perfect fit on r&ss storied roster of pioneering outsiders.

people you may know is the alias of phran and ylia when they work together. both share a love of experimentation in dance music and improvisation in the creative process. they use drum machines, synthesisers and all kinds of pedals to arrive at the intersection of humour, psychedelia and the most hedonistic dance.

after a year’s hiatus optimo music disco plates returns with the first of several planned releases.
first up is long time friend phil kieran with an ep made specifically with optimo in mind. it has been tried and tested over recent months and more than ticks all our boxes. we feel confident it will tick yours too.
phil says “the ep was recorded in my house and made up of mostly live percussion performed live by thomas tettey annang. originally from ghana, he moved to belfast some years ago. it just so happens his wife is a close friend of my sisters and that was the first introduction. thomas now runs -releasing rhythms” here in belfast teaching drum classes.
we used a wide selection of traditional african drums that all have their own name, each one has a style and a sound. the rhythms used in this record would stem back to south american rhythms but using african drums. this was a sound and rhythm that influenced early post punk records in new york and still has an influence on dance music today.”

after last year s stellar ep on l.i.e.s. records, veteran, brooklyn-based producer and dj jake reif (savage hymn, upsetting keys) continues to make waves with his device control brand. the first side of the new ep2 begins with silhouettes: a robotic, techno-funk work out with a nasty kick drum, swirling modular sounds and a timothy leary inspired vocoded vocal. an instrumental version has been included for selectors who prefer tracks to songs. on the flip, joystuck continues the aural assault with a slightly more stripped-back approach. hard-hitting metallic percussion and screaming, alien-esque synth bleeps are all that s necessary here to decimate a dance-floor. finally, divisive rounds out the ep with a stomping vengeance, its jacking claps and dissonant harmonics have been carefully designed to deliver a sonic gut-punch, taking no prisoners when played on a club system

xen & yovav return to malka tuti in 2018 with full thrust and eyes to the future. after being responsible for the first 2 releases on the label, this time the enigmatic singer and the influential producer collaborate and deliver 2 original songs. hayom etmol is a 100% good vibe diy post-punkish poppy song with a flowing synthetic bass line, balearic guitar riffs and dreamy vocals. the b-side, shavit, is a vocal led song, with a repetitive guitar bassline and, trip guitar riffs and a minimalistic drum machine. low fi in its production shavit feels as if it has been dug out of an abandoned 80s record store in the outskirts of glasgow or amsterdam, with a strong cold wave feel to it. this 7” will be the first in a series of more diy approach to electronic music, song writing and production. some exciting names on the bill so hold on to your chairs... hayom etmol’s artwork design was made as always by morey talmor, with a printed inner sleeve designed by the israeli artist kobi swissa and a special silkscreened outer pvc sleeve.

part 2 of the eargasmic acid comp starts with the smooth clear remedy by chicagodeep. its followed by tres amigos from secret studio & chicago skyway. on the flip, melt is a relentless, dark acid track by newcomers heuristics. b2 is a drum/acid machine workout by dcook on litmus test.

packaged in a 7inch format showing the talents of these fresh young artists. fala is a new label from amsterdam, a knekelhuis sister label that will present you with some very delicate surprises in the near future. the kickoff will be a dollkraut rework of the truly beautiful song scheef by eefje de visser. dollkraut captures the magical energy of eefje de vissers creation, turning it into a drum driven dancefloor-ready track. the b-side will contain the original version of scheef released before on her highly acclaimed album nachtlicht. fala!

fantasy life was a one-off italo disco studio project that consisted of various producers, songwriters, and vocalists from turin, italy. the line-up included lorenzo avico, maurizio camoletto and sergio bergamin. they recorded their only single ?over and over? at minirec studio in 1985 with mixing engineer gigi guerrieri. it was released that same year by thick record a sublabel of il discotto productions and became one of the most coveted italo disco 12?s. ?over and over? is a parable that describes the story of a girl growing up, comparing her life to the changes of the moon. signature linn drum and simmons drums create the driving rhythm track that hauntingly sways back and forth. the vocal version has a nearly two minute extended instrumental break in the middle of the song heightening the dramatic pace. on the b-side is a dub version with extended instrumental breaks, bass lines and occasional vocals. both songs are remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. the vinyl is housed in the original jacket featuring a painting by andrea franzoso and includes a double sided postcard with lyrics and notes.

about this release *first 10 tracks only come with the limited edition nijmegen s eshu welcomes co-founder ivano tetelepta for his first solo release on the label. it is also the imprint s first full length, but tetelepta s second album after the hypnotic drum workout that was true colours, his debut on fear of flying in 2012. it comes as a double vinyl release with the first disc being limited, and finds the producer casting himself free from the dance floor and serving up a beautifully atmospheric soundtrack that would be a perfect companion for a nature documentary. when making eps and 12-s, tetelepta s smooth and infectious drums are always front and centre in his work, whether solo or as producing with label mates under the eshu alias.

dark entries editions is proud to reissue ghost town the 1984 debut 12inch single by mono band from italy. the project was conceived by producer rene d herin and massimo fantinatiti aka fantenax. they teamed up with songwriter and guitarist luigi venegoni aka svengile who had previously worked with progressive and jazz-rock bands arti & mestieri and venegoni & co. as well as cosmic disco group stratosferic band. treading the lines between italo disco and the darker side of new wave, the trio crafted a mysterious sound. melancholic arpeggiators, a throbbing baseline, stuttering samples, and the classic linn drum machine run throughout the track. vocals were handled by an uncredited carlo rossi who raps about a ghost town filled with fear. when female vocalist elena sansonetti begins to softly whisper the chorus one might get goose bumps. the trio were joined in the studio by dj mike aka michele paolino of make up/mike up, dj moody, fabrice bellini of art fine and producer miceli. the song was recorded in a few days at dynamo sound studio in turin and originally released on the popular discomagic records. this reissue includes the original vocal version, backed with a longer dubbed out instrumental ?ghost version? on the b-side. all songs have been remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. the 12inch is housed in an exact replica of the original sleeve with an astrological photo the planets orbiting the sun. each copy also includes a 2-sided postcard.

repress - for their first multi-artist compilation, music from memory take us on a trip to the heart of the amazon rainforest. outro tempo: electronic and contemporary music from brazil, 1978-1992 is a double lp that explores the outer reaches of brazilian music, where indigenous rhythms mix with synthesizers and where mpb mingles with drum computers. as brazil faced the last years of its military dictatorship and transition to democracy, a generation of forward-thinking musicians developed an alternative vision of brazilian music and culture. they embraced traditionally shunned electronic production methods and infused their music with elements of ambient, jazz-fusion, and minimalism. at the same time they referenced the musical forms and spirituality of indigenous tribes from the amazon. the music they produced was a complex and mesmerising tapestry that vividly evoked brazilian landscapes and simultaneously reached out to the world beyond its borders.

j. tijn embarks on the eleventh expedition into the exotic lands of palm trees and blue skies with the dark and gritty ‘the deluge’ ep. expedition eleven features four jams packed of heavy drum rhythms, moody synth lines and ambient soundscapes.

when beatsqueeze offered me the opportunity to release a 7” with them, i instantly thought i should make the most out of the many chinese samples i had saved for my chinoiseries project. this record includes many unused samples, drum breaks, sounds and other various samples on side a and side b is a proper dj-tool (skipproof) made to scratch with. make your own chinoiseries beat and then scratch on top of it, i thought that was a pretty cool idea!

3 expansive edits of turkish funk and psychedelia, each dubbed out through tape delays and spring reverbs, as well as carefully eq-ed and mastered for an enhanced sonic experience. side a kicks off with the low slung funk, featuring an infectious bassline which weaves between subtle flashes of spring reverb, whispered vocals, each underpinned by pounding drums. side b begins with biz burdayiz, a relentless drum loop and singular vocal hit looped around and manipulated with tape delays, and the record closes with günesi kesin, a tense funk break which builds before reversing inside of itself. hand stamped vinyl only.

having carved out a reputation for some of the finest cosmic house productions on labels like omena, dirt crew and quintessentials, the lithuanian based producer delivers three new cuts on this release, which comes ably backed by a remix from italian producer fabrizio mammarella. on the title track, alex pletnev (ponty mython), goes for breezy synths and wandering melodies over a chugging mechanical beat and an fm style bassline, whilst fabrizio mammarella (bear funk/les disques de la mort) toughens things up slightly on his remix, plunging into a darker sound aesthetic for a great reinterpretation of the original. on “time spiral” an unhurried groove is laced with layer upon layer of meditative synths and percussive rolls for a fat dose of eighties soundtrack vibes, whilst ep closer, “appreciate it while it s not too late”, settles down to a head-nodding pace with funky bass and key melodies and live drum samples for a real earworm of a track.

mixes from matthus raman & petar dundov! elektronik by mark strain is a track that draws from the english idm tradition, a dreamy and dynamic electronic track, defined by an analog drum machine and a captivating and smooth bassline. matthus raman remixes elektronik by mark strain, keeping the same dreamy and magic atmosphere of the original track, but putting the track into orbit, in the gravitational free space. destination mars and beyond. the refined remix of elektronik by techno master petar dundov is an ecstatic hymn for life, a perfect track for the most sophisticated dance-floors shining at the crack of dawn.

tengrams are brothers alessandro and davide, who collectively have a deep and long understanding of dance music. davide is a co-founder of n.o.i.a, one of italy s first electronic live acts to perform and record with drum machines and synthesizers as early as 1978. he was also behind seminal italo outfit klein + m.b.o and proto house hit dirty talk. since then they have released under an array of aliases, have clocked up numerous club hits and this new project brings them back to their electronic roots, with influences like sci-fi movies and old school electro and italo looming large. -devious- is a very breezy and energetic track with a rolling arpeggio and rich keyboards section over a simply but groovy tr-808 pattern. classical italo space disco sound updated to nowadays. -translucent- sounds like a dreamy electro-ballad heavily influenced by kraftwerk. -pop song- keeps the same 80 s electro vibes with simple, wistful melodies and a great funk bass line. -disco dub- is a pretty damn cool early eighties electronica, with a great pumping -robo-funk- linndrum!

lillygood party! is a label focused on licencing tracks that alex and stephane play for years at their parties. the aim is to re-edit and revisit those jams from soul to house , jazz to afro, boogie to techno and make us and people enjoy and smile on the dancefloor because those tunes are really really good both tracks here are classics dancefloors tunes, nothing rare, just favourite tunes that alex and stéphane play in their sets. on the a side the onwards international version is longer than the original and the arrangement quiet different for more intense dancefloor action. here they both worked on the edit to find the right balance and the right sound in order to revisit the uk classic jazz funk number, a firm favourite here lillygood! the b side is an amazing disco modern soul gospel track from elbernita twinkie clark already reissued some time ago but the cherry on the cake is that you have here a 12inch version extended and a new mastering for extra loud play this version is slightly different than the original, alex extended parts: the beginning with drum intro looped for mixing and changed the end to make it longer keeping the original flavour. please enjoy as much as we do because we love those edits, we love those tunes, we love music we are very happy to share with you these limited vinyls releases

soundway releases new compilation of rare 1980s south african ‘bubblegum’ & boogie
in 1980s black south africa a local form of pop music evolved as the disco boom died down and slowly mutated. it was often ubiquitously described as bubblegum - usually stripped-down and lo-fi with a predominance of synths, keyboards and drum-machines and overlaid with the kind of deeply soulful trademark vocals and harmonies that south african music is famous for. compilers miles cleret (soundway) and dj okapi (afrosynth records) present a selection of 18 rare, handpicked 1980s cuts that highlight the period that nestles in between the ‘70s (where american-influenced jazz, funk and soul bumped shoulders with local mbaqanga) and the ‘90s when kwaito and eventually house-music ruled the dancefloors of urban south africa.

pino presti comes back in 2018 on best record italy with another top class disco production. this time featuring the hot voice of roxy robinson on three unreleased extended disco songs from his 1977 quality archive. the drum groove is enriched by the percussions played by one of the biggest italian drummer tullio de piscopo.

sudd records make the leap to vinyl with the help of detroit champ gari romalis. abstraxx (linear mix) kicks off the record in a heady fog of undulating pads, the smoke positively drifting out of the speaker cones over a simple, deep-as-you-like drum pattern. dark ryda (sunset mix) gets a little more funk in its rhythm, but the same mellow mood prevails, almost reaching dub techno levels in its atmospheric chord swells. heat (bout that life mix) takes things out of the darkness and into a lighter frame of mind, but romalis is still firmly in the deep end of the deep house pool with this final cut on the record.

four tracks of ny-flavoured boogie and house goodness - quality is the key word from copenhagen based music for dreams and here is another home run. willie graff splits his year between dj residencies in new york and ibiza. in this new outing with studio partner darren eboli, the influence is, as the title suggests, clearly ny-based. over only four tracks, the pair manage to craft a stunningly comprehensive exploration of the essential elements of dance music. opening track -love flight- staggers into a lush string-driven groove that recalls the glory of metro area meets wally badarou vibes. minimal yet playful, it lounges somewhere in the depths of the house tradition, calling on familiar sounds while throwing in odd details along the way (harmonicas?). it takes both skill, devotion and a sense of humor to pull this track off, making for a strong opening. -moon tan- lingers on a metallic hook that drags you into a plethora of percussion followed by a rubbery soft baseline. dubby key work would suggest this was a new wave band jamming at compass point, while the icy chill of the xylophone transports you into 80s italo territory. -second sun- pulls out the bag of boogie tricks, relying on a firm but humble baseline and smattering drum machine claps. nile rodgers-style guitar licks guide us onwards into a well-orchestrated jam that builds up and breaks down with perfect timing while dreamy chords reach for the sky. -first light- keeps the groove tight while dipping over towards more balearic temperatures. steeped in a watery atmosphere and gentle organic percussion, it focuses in on a trance-inducing arpeggio that lulls you in to the swaying badarou-style synth swirls that intercept it.

edmondson first came to my attention with his lobster theramin distributed release, flamingo tripper, on his own label lissoms. or so i thought. turns out he was actually a guy who used to serve me in one of my favourite pubs in newcastle. back in those days he was a dub step / drum and bass kid, and as per the trend with all of those guys, hes now showing the house heads how its done, with a much keener feel for sound design, groove and a better ear for a sample than 90% of us lazy people who cut our teeth on a 4/4 beat. edmondson (or sean as i did know him and how i know him once again) is really one of the most exciting producers out there right now for me, and i couldnt be happier that weve reconnected and hes kindly allowed me me me to present some of his amazing music. we have love is an instant classic, and psg is a work of pure emotive art. to remix we have love, ive enlisted dauwd (fresh from his amazing album on technicolour). sean suggested him, and i jumped on the suggestion as he was one of the first people i met when i moved to berlin 4 years ago, and ive been trying to figure out a way of working with him since. he takes a we have love down a kind of more delicate and steppy route. its very pretty, but also really makes you want to dance. to remix psg i asked asok. again, i thought i first met asok about 7 or 8 years ago, when he came and played for a party i used to throw in newcastle. after becoming good friends over the years, we got chatting and it turned out that we were both in magaluf in 1998, and may have actually been involved in the same street brawl. thats not something either of us are proud of, but its definitely food for thought. i’m biased, but i think his remix is my favourite thing he’s ever done, and i love everything he’s touched musically to date, so thats probably an even bigger endorsement than it first seems. his version is big.

cia records is an imprint who has remained at the centre of drum & basses history, with esteemed producers total science creating it during the genre’s formative years in 1997. the forthcoming ep on cia, field’s ‘intention dub’, highlights the eclectic mix of artists who have joined the roster since its first release. featuring a variety of collaborative producers, the six-track ep exemplifies the talented intricacies of fields and his masterful song compositions. the names that run alongside fields stand out within their own right, with underground stalwarts mako, and mcleod, roller top dog break, frequent partner villem (who go under their pseudonym mute) and forren, who also makes an appearance. as a collective, they represent many of the artists who helped cia build their impressive back catalogue.
